BooneLive – The Music Scene in Boone

A taste of what’s happening after dark in the small venues of a small mountain college town

For the past few months I’ve been utilizing the startlingly stellar quality of the H4n Handy Recorder (previous post about that here) and the prodigal 5D MK3 to document a busying pulse of live music in Boone. Primarily and so far I’ve been filming the shows organized by the Loven House Underground (Nathan Sheets & Devin Tuttle) in smaller, personal venues. These coffee shops, record stores, bars and houses are bent on presenting a set of “that’s how you do’s it” rules of thumb that make recording an interesting endeavor, I’ll get to those some other time.

Live music in Boone, the Boone music scene, those crunchy grooves dripping through the streets and around the corner things of a small mountain town in the North Carolina high country, BooneLive. Whatever you want to call it, it’s here and it’s a damn varietous mess of local and traveling folken plying their tunes.

BooneLive is a project. Its an attempt, one baby step after another, to document live music in Boone. Of course there are a helluva lot more shows going on in town than have been sucked through my lens, but for now I’m only one person with a fair amount of otherings going on in my week to weeks. This project is about supporting local venues, local business, starving musicians local and long traveled, and the hard work and dedication of those that are able to bring the entertainment this way.
